Nissan have launched the new NV200 which they hope is going to replace the iconic Hackney black cab.

With claims of massive reductions in CO2 emissions and as much as 50% better fuel efficiency the Japanese car company seem to have moved mountains to fall into line with the Clean Air Initiative in London.

But it’s not just south of the border that cabbies are becoming more eco-friendly, Scotland’s first Hybrid Taxis, belonging to Mac’s Taxis of Moray, went on the road only a few months ago and the feedback from the drivers is positive.

So with hybrid and eco cars becoming ever more popular and widely available eventually costs will come down, and with the savings to be made on fuel alone the benefits may one day convince the majority of cabbies that these green cars may be the way forward.
